About Society Street

Society Street runs in-person and online conferences and events to bring together senior – and future –  leaders of learned societies for discussion, debate, networking, and information exchange, that is uniquely focussed on the whole organisation.

Society Street fosters building relationships with your peers through stimulating conversation, with discussions that explore challenges more deeply, and an agenda that poses the difficult questions we all need to find answers to.

Thanks to the continued support of our sponsors, it is free to attend Society Street online events. All online sessions are recorded and can be viewed on demand. You can view all sessions from our March 2020 event, and past sessions of our 2020 webinar series, and you can sign up to be alerted about new events.

Surviving in a Financial Downturn:
Small Workshops & Discussion Groups

Places are limited for these workshops, which provide an opportunity for UK and European society leaders to meet and discuss the challenging issues they are all facing today. The workshops aim to foster the kinds of discussion and networking that Society Street is known for: come and share ideas with your colleagues and peers who are facing similar challenges.

We will kick-off with a short context-setting talk from Simon Inger, and will then break out into small workshops of no more than 10 delegates each.

The workshops have been designed by Helena Wilkinson and Sam Burrell, and each will be facilitated by either a society leader, or by someone regularly working with societies on the strategic issues facing them. Groups will be asked to abide by rules of confidentiality, and attendees will be expected to be active participants. We will encourage attendees to use their webcams, as well as headsets with mics.

The workshops will cover cost-cutting, human resource issues, revenue challenges, and topics brought by our attendees.

Thanks to our sponsors, places are free, but limited – and only available to staff from Learned and Professional Societies. The Society Street team will assign a break-out group to registrants. If the discussion groups are over-subscribed, we may have to limit registrants.

All groups will reconvene to gather main findings and thoughts, and to create the agenda together for Society Street 2021.

Wednesday 25th November

2:00 PM – 3:30 PM GMT

Conferences and Meetings: Has the Pandemic Been the Mother of Invention?

Chair: Sam Burrell
Speakers: TBC

Join our speakers discussing their experiences of running their annual meetings online this year, reflecting on what worked well and what worked less well, and how their experience of this year will inform their meetings strategy going forwards.

This session is longer than our normal webinars because we know that there will be many questions from the audience and lively chat!

Society Street Events will take a break in December, and will reconvene in 2021.

What would you like to hear about in 2021? Propose a topic for the next series of webinars: what would like to see us cover? Or, feel free to suggest a speaker for 2021.
